Summer Brass Band Success
If you want to have fun as a family, you need look no further than joining your local brass band. Whether you are an experienced player or a beginner, you will always be welcome.
Doug Vine and his son, Jack (aged 10), did just this. In April, 2009, they joined the Christchurch and Highcliffe Training Band and were swiftly moved up to the main band. This year, both have played cornet solos with the C & H Band and their hard work has been recognised by Musical Director, Lawrence Butchart. Doug was awarded a cup for Most Committed Player in the C & H Band. Jack was awarded a shield for Most Improved Player.
Robert and Ruth Eshelby (soprano cornet and solo horn) and Ruth’s son Robbie Bowering (aged 19), who plays the trombone, joined the C & H Band only this year. At the Wessex Band Summer School in Sturminster Newton, Ruth was presented with the Elinor Tolfree cup for Progress, while Robbie was awarded the prestigious overall Brass Band Award.
The Christchurch and Highcliffe Band, under the baton of well-known Musical Director, Lawrence, has been heard this summer in venues such as the Bournemouth Gardens Pinewalk Bandstand and in the bandstand on Christchurch Quay.
If you or your family are looking for a challenging and rewarding activity, why not contact the Christchurch and Highcliffe Band. You will find more details at www.christchurchandhighcliffeband.org.uk. Beginners and experienced players are welcome.
Why not play together? It may be the start of a lifetime’s pleasure.
