ABOUT US

The band was formed in 1907, when it was known as the Highcliffe Silver Band, based at Highcliffe Library. Since then it has undergone several changes of name and venue. In recent years, the band has enjoyed a regular but manageable calendar of concerts and engagements, but of course this all came to an abrupt end with the emergence of covid. As with many organisations, the band lost a lot of players for varying reasons, work, university or some who just stopped playing altogether.

However, the band is steadily growing again, gradually increasing our numbers.

We are a non contesting band of mixed abilities, all keen to support and encourage each other in our common aim to improve what we do and to provide the Christchurch area with a brass band to be proud of.

Our musical director, Lawrence Butchart, is a fine musician and conductor having played at the top level of British Banding for many years as well as in the Scots guards.

The music we play is very varied. You can expect to play traditional brass band marches, past contest pieces, music from the shows and film scores spanning a variety of genres from classical to swing. Something for everyone to enjoy.

We like to challenge ourselves with some of the pieces we play, but all in a very supportive and encouraging environment.

In short, we are a social band, that is going through a period of change and is looking to expand our membership, improve our playing and provide a high quality brass band for the local area to enjoy.
